A coastal Thanksgiving: where to feast, volunteer, and celebrate in SWFL
A coastal Thanksgiving: where to feast, volunteer, and celebrate in SWFL
Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26, and if this is your first holiday season in Southwest Florida, you are in for a treat. The turkey tastes the same. Everything else is better. Here is how to do Thanksgiving, coastal style.
Let someone else cook
If the thought of cooking a full Thanksgiving dinner in a vacation rental kitchen makes you tired, you have excellent options. Many local restaurants go all out for the holiday, and reservations fill fast, so book early.
In Naples, Ocean Prime serves a three-course prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner, most recently published at $65 per guest. Black Forest Restaurant, a longtime German favorite, has also served Thanksgiving dinner in past years; watch for this year's holiday menu and hours.
In Fort Myers, the Luminary Hotel gives you two choices: The Silver King Coastal Kitchen is doing a three-course prix fixe priced by entree, with the traditional turkey plate at $49, while Ella Mae's Diner keeps it casual with a homestyle turkey plate and all the sides (about $35 in recent years, and it opens early). Bahama Breeze is serving a dine-in Thanksgiving plate, plus a takeout family bundle that feeds four, about $100 in recent years.
Prefer to eat at home without the work? Overtime in Cape Coral does takeout catering with trays sized for a crowd, quoted per order, so call ahead. Tuscany Italian Market in Fort Myers sells whole turkeys, sides, and pies. And for dessert, Norman Love Confections is the splurge: pumpkin pie for $28 and a pumpkin cheesecake for $50 on its most recent holiday menu, and worth every penny.
Give back
The holidays are also a wonderful time to plug into your community, and SWFL has no shortage of ways to help. The Harry Chapin Food Bank runs its annual Thanksgiving turkey and ham drive through November 20, with drop-off locations in Fort Myers and Naples. The food reaches 175 partner agencies across five counties.
Feed Thy Neighbor cooks and serves more than 350 full Thanksgiving meals with all the trimmings at the Bonita Springs Lions Club, and they welcome volunteers and donations. Community Cooperative in Fort Myers runs food pantries and community cafes year-round. Catholic Charities holds a Thanksgiving food blessing in the weeks before the holiday; watch for this year's registration dates. The Salvation Army offers holiday assistance through its Lee and Collier County branches.
If you are new in town, volunteering is one of the fastest ways to meet people and feel at home. I cannot recommend it enough.
Earn your pie
Before the feast, join one of the area's beloved Turkey Trot traditions. The headliner is the 47th Annual Fort Myers Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, hosted by the Fort Myers Track Club and the Edison and Ford Winter Estates: the 5K starts on McGregor Boulevard at 7:30 AM and finishes at the Estates, and proceeds benefit the Estates' Preservation Fund and Kimmie's Recovery Zone. Down in Naples, the 13th annual GCR Thanksgiving 5K starts on 5th Avenue by Cambier Park and benefits St. Matthew's House. Both races offer kids' runs too, so bring the kids and grandkids.
A new tradition
Here is my favorite part of coastal Thanksgiving: after dinner, you take a walk on the beach. No coats, no shoveling, just the Gulf at golden hour and the people you love. However you celebrate this year, I hope it is full of good food and gratitude.
